Barder and the Flying Turban (Creative Writing #2)

On February 1, 2010 we had to write a creative story using this photo:

The only information given to us that we had to incorporate into the story was that the dog's name is Barder and the orange turban gives him the power to fly. Here is the story that I came up with...

Sha'dir was your average American child celebrity. He appeared numerous time on the hit children's program, "My Kid Is Way Smarter Than That Thing You Call Your Offspring". Sha'dir was, in fact, the most beloved character on the program. Stores nationwide were selling Sha'dir mugs, shirts, and undergarments. Sha'dir was living the dream, that was of course, until the incident. Sha'dir would probably be today's hottest celebrity instead of having a feature on E! Hollywood's, "Why Was This Person Ever Famous In The First Place?", if not for his "biggest fan". Sha'dir would never have guessed it, but his biggest fan was none other than the host of his childhood t.v. show, Floyd Jackson. Unfortunately, Floyd had problems, serious problems. He shared a special type of feelings for the children who appeared on his show. The kind that can get a man of Floyd's years, arrested. Long story short, while Sha'dir was getting ready backstage to perform his smash-hit single, "I Treat Women With Respect" off of his brand-new album, "Lil' Sha Sha's Funky Mix", Mr. Jackson tried to pull a fast one. After the media caught wind of the news story, no parent wanted to expose their child to Sha'dir and his tragic story.

Years have gone by now and Sha'dir is now a man in his middle-aged years. He is still living in seclusion from the rest of the outside world with only his dog, Barder, as his companion. He is still ashamed of his life, and who would blame him. He has no job, friends or family. Plus, the way he looks now doesn't help him in any way to start a family. The drugs he was given to cope with the mental stress of his horrific experience have stunt his growth. However, Sha'dir has a plan. While in the black market the other day, Sha'dir stumbled upon a turban. The shopkeeper claimed that the turban granted a dog the power of flight, the only reason Sha'dir even bothered with Barder. Now with his new weapon, Sha'dir intends to use the turban, his flying dog Barder, and his immense knowledge to go back in time to stop the evil Floyd Jackson from ever soiling his childhood body.

Hope you enjoyed...

Creative Journal: Writing In Reverse

We did a journal in class on January 26, 2010 where we had to look at a photo of a person exiting the subway and create a story about them using only that photo as a reference. It was a pretty interesting writing experience since we had the freedom to be as creative as we wanted to. Below are the two stories I wrote accompanied by the two photos I used to draw my inspiration...

PHAT TROUBLE
Salvador L. Jenkins has just come from his $17 breakfast at his favorite restaurant, Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. He is in a hurry to pick up his custom-made Phat Farm shoes to compliment his favorite shirt, the black XXL Phat Farm shirt his aunt in Phoenix, AZ had bought for his birthday before she passed away last September. He is excited and determined to arrive at his destination on time so he decides that the subway will be his quickest mode of transportation. While on the subway Salvador fidgets in his chair as he waits impatiently for the subway to finally reach Queens, where the store that carries his shoes is waiting. Allowing his patience to reach its limit, Salvador jumps out of his seat, arms flailing. Unfortunately, Salvador's latest episode has come with a price. While jumping out of his seat, Salvador failed to notice that the person sitting next to him was Alain, who had just been released on parole. Salvador had just scuffed Alain's brand-new fresh $200 Nike's. Alain, now upset, faces Salvador and pulls out a can-opener, threatening to hurt Salvador. Salvador is now terrified at this point since he had never been in a fight before or even held a weapon. Fearing he might wet himself, Salvador dashes for the subway exit to escape what would have been a messy situation.

WHAT REAL MEN DO ON A SATURDAY

Jermaine may look like your average, everyday hobbo. Some parents would even look at him and say, "Wait a second, isn't that the man from Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood?" and then turn around to their kids and say, "See kids, drugs are bad news..." However, few would ever suspect that Jermaine is actually in the middle of saving someone's life. Jermaine, or should I say, Captain Tenacious, is on his way to save his wife, Florida, from the clutches of his archnemesis, Dr. Fantastico. You see, Jermaine was once part of the popular 1940s vigilante group, the "Great Triumphant Fellowship of Men Better Than You" or G.T.F.O.M.B.T.Y. for short. While fighting small time crime on the streets of Brooklyn and running around in pink spandex, Captain Tenacious made a few enemies along the way, enemies who don't just go away. One morning while Jermaine was lying in bed waiting for his wife Florida to bring him his morning coffee, he noticed a piece of paper jammed between his sheets. He struggled to retrieve the note, but once it was firmly grasped in his hand he read it aloud, "Meet me at the M&M's store here in New York or I'm going to nibble on your wife's toes while she's sleeping. Love, Dr. Fantastico" Alarmed, Jermaine rushes out of bed, gets dressed, and hurries on to the subway. He is determined now more than ever to not only ignore the remarks of people comparing him to the host of a popular children's program, but to get back his beloved wife, Florida.
